It's officially wedding season, with September 21 being the most popular wedding date this year. Tying the knot now comes with a hefty price tag: the average cost of a US wedding was $35k in 2023, up from $30k in 2022. More than half (56%) of newlyweds took on credit card debt, and 31% regret their wedding expenses. Interestingly, weddings costing under $1k have a lower probability of divorce than those exceeding $20k.
The fashion industry has responded to these trends. Abercrombie & Fitch launched a Wedding Shop with prices between $80 and $150, Forever 21 offers a bridal collection ranging from $9 to $50, and Shein provides wedding dresses for $50 to $200, compared to the usual starting price of $2000 for wedding dresses.
